The Nordstrom in-store team was looking for new experiences that would draw crowds and surprise and delight during the holiday shopping season. As the result of a facilitated co-creation session, they decided to continue investigating three potential ideas. Wishbox, a photo booth concept, needed immediate definition due to the longer lead times required for construction.

WHAT

  • Design research for photo booth concept for holiday at Nordstrom

WHY

  • Rapidly determine key design elements and constraints

HOW

  • Designed rapid prototyping study based on initial sketches

  • Built a mock Wishbox with movable whiteboard walls, a chair, draping, and an iPad for camera functionality

  • Recruited 8 participants and executed design study

  • Determined physical tolerances and design insights based on participants’ actions and responses

OUTCOMES

  • Based on our report, our business stakeholders determined that they would rather go a different way. Our rapid prototyping had saved months of work and thousands of dollars.
